Good Afternoon Charlotte,

  Fri, Jun 30, 2006

I am anxious to see tour information for Jimmy and his band. I grew up in Hobbs, NM and remember Jimmy from an early age picking for us at PTA meetings, etc. Not sure where he settled down after leaving Roy, but curious if he plans to head to the east coast to tour. There are lots of musicians and lovers of bluegrass music here in North Carolina. Glad to see the website also, been wondering if he was still planning on performing.

Thanks,

My name is Jamye and I knew Jimmy when we were kids.
Our parents had mutual friends (The Hazelwoods).

Please pass on my congratulations and well wishes to
Jimmy for his new career efforts. I will be checking back
to the website for tour information.

Years ago, my parents went to the see Roy Clark and brought back a cassette tape of Jimmy Henley playing banjo. I was learning to play banjo at the time. I loved that tape and completely wore it out.

I would pay quite a premium to get my hands on a CD of that recording. Especially "Rueben"! Every year or so, I have poked around the internet trying to find out where he was so I could try to get his version of the song. Everybody seems to have a version, but nobody does it as good. I am glad I finally found his website.

I would be willing to send a check, money-order, call with a credit-card number, whatever you need. Just let me know.

Thanks,
 Mike Sullivan

Hi Charlotte:

Tue, Jan 09, 2007

I used to have an LP of Jimmy's with a recording of the William Tell Overture on it. Well, LP's are pretty much history (and mine is long gone), so I was hoping to find it on CD's but I'm not having much luck.

Can you offer any help? Is that old LP of Jimmy's perhaps available somewhere on CD?

Thanks,
John Ferry

Charlotte :
I live in Hobbs, New Mexico, and knew the Henley family well when they lived here, and Jimmy was small.  A little story:  When Jimmy was about 9 or 10, I got to know a person that was very close to the Henley family.  I had heard around town that Jimmy could really play a banjo, and mentioned that I would like to hear him play some time.  My friend took me right over to their house, where we found James outside mowing the grass.  He motioned us to go on in, where we found Jimmy doing Saturday choirs.  My friend Tammy asked him to play something for me.  He pulled out his banjo and played a tune he called "Bluegrass Rag".  I can tell you that it was no less than a life altering experience, and I knew that very second that they wouldn't be hanging around Hobbs, New Mexico much longer.  Sure enough, they were soon hooked up with Roy Clark.

I plan to try to catch him in Oklahoma this summer.  Because of the day I heard him play, I nudged my son into bluegrass several years ago.  He is now 17, and is New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas state mandolin champion (in competition open to all ages, amateur or professional).  He is also a multi state guitar champion, and will competing for national titles at Winfield, Kansas next September.  Please say hi to Jimmy from all of us still here in Hobbs, and tell him that he indirectly inspired another bluegrass champion!  Also let him know that we still talk about him and his incredible playing a lot here in Hobbs, New Mexico, and certainly haven't forgotten him or his family.

Best regards,
Marvin Burrows
